Welcome to Howe Sound Secondary School

Dear Students, Parents and Caregivers,

Thank you to those who were able to attend our family information session last night, this session was geared towards our incoming grade 10 students as well as new to SD 48 students and families in grade 11 & 12.

A copy of the slideshow is available on our website here.

First Day of School

Please note that our first day will consist of a staggered start based on the following schedule:

  • Grade 10 students will attend from 8:58 am to 11:00 am
  • Grade 11 and 12 students will attend from 1:30 am 3:15 pm

Grade 10 students will go immediately to the large gym when they arrive Tuesday morning. Students will be greeted by staff and will join their A block teacher. Students should access their schedule through the myed portal so that they know the name of their A block teacher. Students will go through a mini rotation, visiting all of their semester 1 classes. Following the mini rotation, grade 10 students are dismissed for the remainder of the day.

Grade 11/12 students will go immediately to their A block classes. Students should access their schedule through the myed portal so that they know the name and room numbers of their teachers. If students have to make changes to their schedule but don’t have a counselling appointment until later in the week, they should follow their original schedule until changes have been made.

We will post A block classes and teachers for all students in case families experience difficulties logging into myed. Students will also receive a copy of the schedule in their A block classes.

Bussing

We will run buses on September 5th to accommodate our modified schedule. Grade 10 students will follow their usual bus schedule in the morning and will be dropped off following pick up at 11:00 am.

Students in grade 11/12 will need to follow a modified afternoon schedule to arrive at HSS for our 1:30 pm start time. Busses will be available to take students to their regular bus stop at the end of the school day.

Please click here for September 5th but schedule for the am and pm bus runs.

Action Required: For the 2023-2024 school year, School District No.48 will continue with the

bus registration system. The bus pass program is designed to enhance our safe, effective and

efficient transportation system. All students who seek bus transportation are now required to

register annually to receive a bus pass and to have a bus seat allocated to them. Please visit

the SD 48 website here to access the registration form and for more details about ridership.

Counselling appointments

Counselling appointments are for grade 11 & 12 students only. Course changes must be completed by September 9th. Changes to student schedules will not be accommodated after the first week of school.

Students in grade 10 can email [email protected] if there is anything missing on their schedule.

Student Fees

Students are now able to pay their fees through school cash online. Once the fees are paid, students will be able to secure their lockers. Please note there is a 24 hr or 1 business day delay between payment of student fees and locker bookings.

We are looking forward to welcoming all of our new and returning families to HSS on September 5th.

Sincerely,

Ms. Erin Boisvert (she/her)
