Exams and Assessments

Final Exams and Provincial Assessments:
We encourage students to stay focused on their coursework, stay organized, and reach out to teachers with any questions about upcoming assessments and exam dates.
Provincial Assessments:
In British Columbia, all students complete provincial literacy and numeracy assessments as part of their graduation requirements. These assessments measure essential skills in reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning that students use across all subjects — not just in English or Math classes.

At the high school level, there are three key assessments:

  • Grade 10 Literacy Assessment

  • Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment

  • Grade 12 Literacy Assessment

These are not tied to specific courses but are important graduation requirements. Results are reported on a four-point scale — Emerging, Developing, Proficient, or Extending — and appear on students’ transcripts.

Howe Sound Secondary offers four assessment sittings each year: November, January, April, and June.
