Clubs/Activities
Howe Sound Secondary has a wide selection of clubs for students to participate in. Below are the clubs that are currently happening. Please check the daily announcements for the most up-to-date club information. New members are always welcome to join our clubs.
BOARD & GAMES CLUB: Every day at lunch the art room is open for students to play board games. This self-run group is a great way to spend a lunch break with friends. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Boisvert
INTERACT CLUB: This club’s purpose is to make a difference in our community and the world. This club runs on Mondays at lunch in B201 Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Lafreniere
CHEMISTRY CLUB: Our Chemistry Club meets Mondays at lunch in B206 to learn and prepare chemistry demos and lessons for younger students at elementary and middle school. Members will form teaching teams and be able to perform demos and lessons for the age group, classroom and school of their choice. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Diehl
DIVERSITY CLUB: The Diversity Club is inclusive of all students, including LGBTQ2, and meets to discuss topics important to emotional and physical well-being. This club runs on Tuesdays at lunch in B201 Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Lafreniere
DANCE TEAM: Our Dance team meets on Tuesday at lunch in the Green Room. Everyone is welcome! Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Johnson
STUDENT COUNCIL CLUB: Our Student Council club is open to new members and meets every Tuesday at lunch in the library. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Jazic
SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB: The Social Justice Club meets every Wednesday in B201 to plan for raising awareness or funds for social issues. The issues are chosen by the students involved. Everyone is welcome to join. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Lafreniere
SEX, DRUGS & PIZZA CLUB: The Sex, Drugs and Pizza club runs every second Wednesday in room A104. Join us for candid discussions about the social and emotional considerations of sex and drugs in a relaxed, safe and non-judgmental environment. Each month will cover a new topic related to sexual health and drug awareness. Teacher Sponsors: Ms. Imbeau & Ms. Way
MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB: All levels are welcome to join our Mountain Bike Club that meets on Wednesdays during the riding season. Teacher Sponsor: Mr. Dallman
FILM CLUB: Film Club meets every Thursday in room B210. We work together to come up with story ideas with a goal of creating our very own short films. PLUS we get to take part in quarterly film workshops hosted by Vancouver Film School, right here at HSS. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Brucculieri
FARM CLUB: The Farm Club meets on Thursdays at lunch at the farm site. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Eidsvik
BOOK CLUB: Come enjoy a great book and a great discussion. The HSS Book Club meets on the first and last Thursday of each month in the library. New members are always welcome. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Sutherland, Ms. van der Werff and Ms. Borsoff
NEWSPAPER CLUB: The HSS "Howe It Sounds" Newspaper team meets on Thursdays in B108. Our goal is to build students writing, design, and journalism skills as well as help school and world news reach our students. We will continue posting once a week on our website and in papers around the school. Teacher sponsor: Ms. Van der Werff.
MATH CLUB: Our Math Club runs on Fridays in B117. Learn new concepts, practice for the U. of Waterloo math competitions, and play games. Tutoring is available. Everyone is welcome.
MODEL UN CLUB: The HSS Model UN club meets on Fridays in the library with the goal to fundraise and attend a student United Nations conference in Vancouver later in the year. Students will strengthen their public speaking, negotiation, team work, and leadership skills. All grade levels are welcome to join. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Boisvert & Mr. Greenwood
