Clubs/Activities

 

Howe Sound Secondary has a wide selection of clubs for students to participate in. Below are the clubs that are currently happening. Please check the daily announcements for the most up-to-date club information. New members are always welcome to join any of our clubs.

BOARD & GAMES CLUB:  Everyday at lunch the art room is open for students to play board games. This self-run group is a great way to spend a lunch break with friends. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Boisvert

CHEMISTRY CLUB:  Our Chemistry Club meets Mondays at lunch in B206 to learn and prepare chemistry demos and lessons for younger students at elementary and middle school. Members will form teaching teams and be able to perform demos and lessons for the age group, classroom and school of their choice. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Diehl

MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB:  The Mountain Bike Club is for low-intermediate riders and above. The club meets after school on Mondays during the riding season. Teacher Sponsor: Mr. Dallman

FARM CLUB: Our Farm Club runs on Tuesdays at lunch on the farm! Join Harriet, our farm manager, for some fun farming tasks and activities! Teacher sponsor: Ms. Eidsvik

DANCE CLUB:  Our Dance Club meets on Tuesday at lunch in the Green Room/Dance Studio. This is a great way for dancers of all levels to meet new friends and choreograph dances.  There’s an opportunity to share your dances in the January and June Showcases. Everyone is welcome. STUDENT COUNCIL CLUB: Our Student Council Club meets every Tuesday at lunch in A110.This club’s mandate is to work together to make HSS a better place for everyone. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Booth and Ms. Jazic

ECO CLUB: Our ECO Club meets on Thursdays at lunch in Room B103. The purpose of this club is to unite students who are passionate about the environment to implement environmentally friendly initiatives at HSSS. Through this club, students will have the opportunity to promote environmental awareness, encourage sustainable practices, and engage in meaningful conversations about environmental issues. The members of this club will be able to collaborate on projects that make a positive impact both within the school and the broader community. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Cormack

INTERACT CLUB: The Interact Club runs on Thursdays at lunch in B201 with the purpose to make a difference in our community and the world. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Lafreniere

BOOK CLUB: The HSS Book Club meets on the first and last Thursday of each month in the library. Come enjoy a great book and a great discussion. New members are always welcome. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Sutherland

YOGA CLUB: Our Yoga Club runs on Thursdays after school from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the Dance Studio. Join us for free yoga. Each week will be a different style taught by a different student teacher. Equipment is provided and all ability levels are welcome. Teacher Sponsor; Ms. Johnson

MODEL UN CLUB: The HSS Model UN club meets on Fridays in A110 with the goal to fundraise and attend a student United Nations conference in Vancouver later in the year. Students will strengthen their public speaking, negotiation, team work, and leadership skills. Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Boisvert

CLIMBING CLUB:  The climbing clubs runs in the spring. Stay tuned to the announcements in early spring for days and times. Teacher Sponsor: Mr. Moores
